Former Idaho coach Robb Akey has filed a lawsuit against the University of Idaho in an attempt to recover compensation he claims the school owes him. This is per a report from KREM 2 in Spokane.
Akey was fired last Oct. 21 following Idaho’s 70-28 blowout loss to La. Tech the day before — Idaho was 1-7 at the time of his dismissal. Because he was fired before the season ended, the school withheld what is estimated to be a little over $100,000 in compensation — or a third of his yearly salary which approached $375,000 with media payments added on to his base salary.
“All I’m looking for is getting the money I earned. I’m not looking for anything more than that. I just want a fair resolution,” Akey told KREM 2.
The Idaho State Board of Education approved a five-year contract extension for Akey in 2010, running through the 2014 season. Akey will receive his annual base salary of $165,769 through December 2014 if he doesn’t find another job.
The athletic department said it couldn’t comment.
We’ll have more when it becomes available.

Good for Coach Akey. We were heart broken when he was fired. come on, they could have kept for the last 3 games of the season. Wishing Coach all the best.

Akey, I thought you cared about us: about our university. But now its apparent that all you want is more money. Thanks for showing us where your heart truly was all those years we sat in the stands cheering our vandals on, through victory and defeat.
