Hannah Kiser- Cross- country
One of four juniors on the cross- country team that has never lost a WAC Championship meet, it still seems surreal that Kiser has another season to improve on an already remarkable career. Helping the Vandals overcome UT-San Antonio by the narrowest of margins in the WAC Championship meet, Kiser finished the race ahead of all other competitors with a time of 17:15.3, 10 seconds better than the next best finished. In her freshman and sophomore years, the Wenatchee, Wash., native finished sixth and second respectively at the conference championships. Kiser may have expected more out of the NCAA Regional meet, where she finished 54th.
Trey Farquhar- Football
It was quite the season for Farquhar, who was called upon often when the Vandals hit a rock wall when they crossed the 50-yard line. The senior increased his NFL stock early on in the season when he converted all three of his attempts in a home loss to Wyoming. Farquhar cashed in from 26 yards out before his 53-yarder sailed through the goal posts about four minutes later in the first quarter. His next, a 49-yarder in the fourth quarter would give Idaho a three-point lead. He didn’t have any field goal opportunities in a 66-0 loss to North Carolina, but was a perfect 4-4 in Idaho’s next game, a home win against New Mexico State. Farquhar was good from 39, 55, 32 and 53 yards out — the 55-yarder tied his career-long set at San Jose State last season. A graduate of Redlands High School in Southern California, Farquhar went 9-13 in Idaho’s last four games, including 3-3 in the Vandals’ finale. He accounted for all nine of Idaho’s points and hit field goals from 38, 46 and 52 yards out.
Allison (Walker) Baker- Volleyball
Baker was essential to the best ever finish from an Idaho volleyball team and the junior made the decision to forgo her senior season, leaving the Vandals without one of the conference’s best outside hitters for the 2013 season. Baker, who was nominated to the all-WAC first team in each of her three seasons at Idaho, saved the best for last. The Vandals were one match shy of what would’ve been the program’s first-ever appearance at the NCAA Tournament, losing to New Mexico State in the WAC Championship match. Nevertheless, Baker turned on the kill switch early and finished with 28, one short of a career-high she tied in Idaho’s semifinal win against host UTSA. Baker added 12 digs in the championship match, where New Mexico State beat the Vandals 3-1. The All-Tournament team nominee finished the season with 286 kills, third-best in the WAC and averaged 4.09 kills-per-set, second-best in the conference.
Barry Britt- Cross-country
Unlike Kiser, Britt’s storied cross-country career in Moscow came to an end following the WAC Championship meet. Britt finished third at the meet, and only eight seconds behind the champion from Seattle U. He finished second in last season’s WAC Championships and sixth in his first season at Idaho. Among his 2012 accomplishments are a second place finish in Seattle’s Sundodger Invitational and 20th place finish at the nationally renown Dellinger Invitational hosted in Eugene, Ore. Britt finished better than any Vandal, male or female, at the 2012 NCAA Regional meet in Seattle, and tied for a 36th-place finish with his time of 30:27 in the 10K race. Kiser will compete for Idaho in distance events during the 2013 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
