Coffee and I are BFFs. For me, there’s no such thing as a designated “coffee time” — it always has my back with a much-needed caffeine boost. Here are a few songs to love on while you sip your anytime brew.
“Milk and Sugar” by G. Love
With a little bit of banjo, a little bit of blues harp and a whole lot of G. Love, this song will be on my wake-up playlist for eternity.
“Black Coffee in Bed” by Squeeze
This song combines quite a few key characteristics of great music: getting over a hard break-up, the ‘90s waved comb-over and some attempted du-wop.
“Coffee and Cigarettes” by Never Shout Never
Christofer Drew makes the traveling, troubador lifestyle seem so appealing and lovely. And it’s no secret that he’s as addicted to coffee as I am — he’s probably my soulmate.
“Coffee” by Aesop Rock
With a zombie-infested, “clutches of Purgatory” theme, this song is an interesting rap that will get your head to do some early-morning bobbing to the beat.
“The Coffee Song” by Cream
A bit of a blast from the past, but it makes for the perfect bluesy way to start the morning. Plus, coffee and Cream go so perfectly together, right?
“One More Cup of Coffee” by The White Stripes
Frontman Jack White basically sums up my mornings with this song: “one more cup of coffee for the road, one more cup of coffee before I go.” Well, maybe two cups. Or three.
“Black Coffee” by Everlast
I love this guy’s voice, and he manages to logically rhyme “monkey” and “junkie” with nothing but success. It’s perfection.
“Coffee and Cigarettes” by Jimmy Eat World
Despite the same title, this tune is very different from Never Shout Never’s song. With a few hits of discordant guitar and beat-pushing vocals, it’s pure Jimmy and purely fantastic.
“The Coffee Song” by Frank Sinatra
I love Sinatra’s motto in this song: “no tea, no tomato juice, you’ll see no potato juice.” It’s true, there’s simply no substitute for coffee.
“Coffee Mug” by Descendents
These 35 seconds of thrashing punk riff devoted to a coffee mug deliver just as much energy as a shot of pure caffeine. Love it.
