After a full season of up and downs for first-year coach Mark Sowa and Idaho swim and dive, the team is in San Antonio, to compete in the WAC Championship meet.
Idaho finished Wednesday in fifth place overall after placing fifth in each of the two relay events that began the meet.
Freshman Rachel Millet, sophomore Megan Venlos, freshman Erica Anderson and senior Si Jia Pang set a school record in the 800 free relay beating their time from last year by eight seconds, clocking in at 7:25.74.
Millet swam the first leg of the relay with a school record in the 200 portion coming in at 1:49.09.
Wednesday’s action was the first of the four-day event that will determine the conference champion as well as which individual swimmers and divers will represent Idaho at the NCAA championship meets.
Sowa said he hopes Idaho can qualify five or six athletes for the event, saying anybody who qualifies is a win for the team as a whole.
