ASUI offices under construction

It will be a dusty couple of weeks in the ASUI offices now that construction on the out-dated offices has begun.
ASUI President Samantha Perez said construction was delayed because the bidding process for construction began late. Now that construction has begun, everything is expected to proceed as scheduled.
“Right now we have no reason to believe that there’s going to be any delays,” said Hannah Blankenship, ASUI communications board chair.
Blankenship said the furniture was ordered and is expected to arrive before construction is completed.
The furniture is part of a plan developed by Akyla Probert, a University of Idaho graduate in interior design.
In addition to new furniture, the offices will better accommodate students as walls are torn down and the space is opened up.
“The other really cool part is that it’s going to be a lot more open in the back where the elevator is,” Blankenship said. “A lot of people will come up on the elevator and get out on this floor and have no idea where they are, and so instead of being like ‘What is this dark hallway?’ they’re going to be able to see ‘Oh, this is the ASUI office.'”
Blankenship said ASUI will host a grand opening for the offices after construction is completed near the end of February. An exact date for completion of the project has yet to be determined.
“We’re really impressed with the progress that’s being made so far,” Blankenship said.
