Editor’s Note: This letter to the editor is in response to “Boise State’s Greeks not as gaudy as others” printed in the Sept. 22 edition of The Arbiter.
While I can appreciate the viewpoint of this article, there needs to be some clarification.
The author points out “schools” in the headline, then only uses the University of Idaho as a comparison. That comparison comes from what he/she heard and read in the media or from friends. The only source comes from a freshman friend at UI, who also went to school in Lewiston.
The Greek system at UI is also a major source of housing on campus at 44 percent.
The Greek system at UI has had a higher GPA than the campus average for the last nine semesters.
Last year, Idaho’s Greeks completed more than 56,000 community service hours and raised more than $41,000 for local causes.
Seven out of the 17 fraternities at UI are dry houses.
I say the biggest difference is that BSU and Idaho are two different campuses. Idaho is much more traditional with 33 percent of students living on campus versus Boise State only having 8 percent of students living on campus.
